Technological advancement can be partly blamed for the increased movement of illegal contraband in our country’s correctional facilities. Drones, to be specific, have found their way into improper use for this very cause.

I’ve often wondered how prisons deal with the threat of drone use for delivering drugs, weapons, and even smartphones over the walls of confinement and into the hands of inmates or unscrupulous prison officials. But Securus Technologies has recently found success in the sector of public safety due to this newly developing concern.

Over the last 18 months, Securus Technologies has sought out several partners who are experts in technology in order to evaluate what is needed to develop plans and carry out strategies for drone detection.

Securus is in the process of developing pilot programs to assist the institutions that are dealing with this modern problem. Thus far, there have already been successful trials that have been carried out which have produced new tactics and methods to combat the growing problem.

The basic strategy is to quickly detect and identify drones before illegal contraband can be delivered into areas of confinement, thus increasing public safety, and even the safety of the individuals who are incarcerated within prisons along with the officials who work inside of these institutions.

Securus Technologies accomplishes the goal of drone detection by the use of what they call a digital antenna structure, or “DAS”. It is similar to another technology infrastructure that the company employs, called the Wireless Containment Solution.

Drone detection is an important part of public safety because it reduces a relatively new and significant avenue of delivering contraband. Law breakers will use any method possible to land prohibited items inside of a correctional facility, and it comes as no surprise to me that the latest and greatest advancements in drone technology would find their way into improper use.

The proactive thinking and planning of Securus Technologies is helping to reduce this threat. But it’s not just their technical expertise that has fueled the success of the company. They have also recently been recognized for their excellence in customer service.

The company’s Corporate Escalations Team won the Gold award for “Customer Service Complaints Team of the Year” at the 2018 Stevie Awards for Sales & Customer Service. The Stevie Awards recognizes the world’s best companies and professionals in the area of customer service.

In addition to the company’s overall recognition, one of the company’s customer service managers, Zelperita Jackson, won a Silver for Customer Service Professional of the Year. Additionally, the company’s Video Visitation Team was given the honor of a Bronze recognition for a Front-Line Customer Service Team.

All of this tells me that the company has the right ingredients in mind in order to accomplish their goal of putting a significant dent in a developing security problem for our modern-day society.
